Child Life InternshipI look back on the four months I spent in Cape Town as some of the best in my life. My internship at Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital was truly incredible. Connect-123 was able to set me up working with the hospital’s Child Life team, something that the program actually helps make possible in Cape Town, and it was everything that I wanted and so much more. The people I had the chance to work with are some of the most inspirational I have met in the medical field; they all left lasting impressions that only increase my enthusiasm to go into medicine. Everyone was so eager to help me to learn and experience everything I could during my time volunteering there. I also had the chance to work with really great kids, and many of them had more of an impact on me than I expected.
Connect-123 also provided various opportunities to volunteer throughout the community, which I really enjoyed becoming involved in whenever possible. In addition to all of this, they planned social events to help make adapting to the completely new environment as easy and fun as possible. My experience with Connect-123, and in Cape Town, was even more than what I hoped it could have been and is definitely one I will never forget!
